Richard Gross, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, calculates that last week's earthquake off Japan's coast may have shortened the length of Earth's days by about 1.26 microseconds and shifted its axis by about 6.5 inches. Gross describes the findings and explains how changes in Earth's land masses affect the way it spins.

Ya I remember reading about this a couple of days after the quake happened. What I was wondering, is how is this gonna screw up our weather systems... I mean, things have been getting odd enough over the last couple of years, now what?

6.5 inches is quite a bit but I don't think it will mess the systems up overly much. Its to close to tell though so you never know.
